I’m relocating where? … How to get the most out of your relocation to Cleveland, Ohio.
Ever notice how, in movies & TV, Cleveland is only mentioned as “where the killer is from”, “where the bomb was planted”; it’s always referenced, never highlighted, except in the background as a faux-city in movies like Captain American and other Blockbusters. So what is Cleveland all about and exactly how can you get the most from your move here? As a native Clevelander (but lover of travel), I’m here to guide you to what could be your greatest life right here in Cleveland, Ohio. Read on …
In the past few years alone, I’ve had several buyers coming from Los Angeles, a handful from NYC, some from Chicago, Atlanta and Virginia. I’ve even worked with buyers from South America & eastern Europe, here for our great hospital residency programs. Cleveland has become a melting pot for a variety of relocation areas for many reasons. And part of the beauty of your stay here - be it years or decades - are some of the wonderful things you can take advantage of …
Buy A Home … Invest in your Future
I hear it over & over from client moving from “big cities”, with high costs of living and exorbitant home prices … the Cleveland housing market is a value! Now, if you’ve been privy to our rise in pricing over the past few years, you might question this but … Consider this: the entire country has been through a housing revitalization, resulting in - yes - higher prices but also higher residual value and higher appreciation. Cleveland, my friends, is partly just (finally) leveling out to the rest of the country. Even with these increases, appreciation has sky-rocketed, making Cleveland both one of the most affordable cities to buy in and one of the greatest places to hold value within. Your investment here is sound; and you are far more likely to find the home of your dreams.
Eat Your Way Through our Neighbhorhoods
Maybe if you are from a bigger metropolis, you may not consider Cleveland a dining mecca. But consider this: Our neighborhoods boast a record range of cultural food & beverage gems, from China town, to downtown, from Ohio City & Tremont farm-to-table to the Indian, Middle Eastern and mediterranean flavors of some of our other eateries and even food truck parks and the like. With a little exploring - and an eager belly - you’ll find your faves in no time. Sure, some of our celebrated chefs have moved on to other opportunities but new restaurants are opening regularly while neighborhood faves remain a staple. Have your local faves & also get out and explore what there is to taste in other neighborhoods. There’s no shortage of options to explore.
Embrace Nature & Get Active
Cleveland has some of the best - and usually, for free - natural and active experiences there are to offer. Our award-winning metroparks system is just the start of the immense diversity of options our city offers to explorers, adventure-seekers and weekend warriors. Take a hike, ride a horse, kayak in our rivers & lake, swim, bike & wander to your hearts content. There are so many unique ways to enjoy our outdoors - even in the winter, take advantage of something new like snow-shoeing or cross-country skiing or enjoy your many indoor activity options like rowing classes, yoga, pilates and fantastic gyms.
Be Healthy, Stay Healthy
World-class hospital system draw people from around the globe to Cleveland. And here they are, right at our fingertips and with easy access. Beyond this, most of these institutions offer free or low-cost preventative care and social activity programs. Looking for something really close to home? Look up your local neighborhood government. Many of those have recreation centers, community centers, walking clubs, senior programs and other opportunities for connection & for staying healthy and creating lasting longevity.
Embrace Connection
The reason most of my clients move to Cleveland is … Family. Most of them are starting families and feel that tug to be closer to home; or they are looking for a place to truly enrich their lives without becoming house-poor and having no work/live balance. Clevelanders are - for the most part - friendly folks. Unless you dis a sports team, you’re usually in good standing with most of our residents! Our neighborhoods are close-knit and there are opportunities to reconnect with those you know & love and also make new connections with neighbors, co-workers, that person you always see at your favorite coffee shop or the people in your new moms group. Be open to new connections, and they will certainly come your way.
Cleveland offers so much as a home base. Affordability, the promise of work/live balance, social connection, and the ability to live out all of your favorite hobbies & interests. Whether it’s home or your new home, generate some curiosity and you will find yourself falling in love with our city by the lake in no time. And if you ever need advice — best metroparks hikes, where to get a doggy cake, and the best massotherapist around - I’m just a message away!
